My Story

Hi all, I have decided to push myself again but for the first time I want to raise some money for a charity. This charity being The NHS Velindre Cancer Centre in Wales. A fantastic research and care facility who face cancer head on, on a daily basis! Please take 5 minutes to read about the challenge and the centre and any donations are massively appreciated by me and the centre, even just a few pounds will make a difference. The challenge is a 100km hike across the Arctic Circle in March 2024 for 7 days. It’s a brutally tough challenge in bleak conditions which can be almost zero visibility and temperatures in negative 30’s. We will pull sleighs, wear snow shoes, sleep in huts, face frost bite, melt our own water, carry all our food, and at times be completely alone walking in silence if conditions dictate. The mental aspect of this challenge will be as hard as the physical aspect! Cancer is cruel and we’ve all been affected by it. On average in the UK, someone is diagnosed with cancer every 90 seconds! Fundraising efforts and donations help Velindre continue to be the leading provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales and allows them to fund projects which improve the experience and outcomes of patients receiving care and support there, for example, by ensuring staff have access to the most up to date training and techniques available. I will be running numerous fund raising events in my local area so please keep an eye out for these. My physical training starts tomorrow and so does my fund raising. Anything you can spare I’ll be eternally grateful. Love to all x
